The Vision U16 Girls’ Volleyball Team swept their final playoff round at Volleyball Canada’s East Canadian Open held in Sherbrooke, Quebec on the weekend of May 3rd to 5th to win the Tier 3 East Canadian National East Championship. Two of the team’s earlier pool play losses at the tournament were to the eventual Tier 1 gold medal winners [Les Mousquetaires de Montignac] and the Tier 1 bronze medalists [Durham Attack U16 Black]. Earlier in the tournament the team also lost one of its players, Annagh Macie, with a shoulder separation. The team’s resiliency and consistency were evident on Sunday where the team swept the STVC Revolution from Toronto in the quarter-finals, the Stingrays '97 IZU from Richmond Hill and the Northumberland Breakers 16U Girls from Belleville in an exciting gold medal match. The team’s gold medal performance at the East Canadian Championships followed their 5th overall place finish at the Ontario Championships which were held at the RIM Centre in Waterloo earlier in April which featured 71 teams in the province. This is the culmination of a very successful Ontario Volleyball club season that saw the team compete in both the premier and championship tiers capturing a gold medal, 2 silver medals and a bronze. Vision team members include: Annagh Macie, Kristen Zamperoni, Kate Bowness, Danyka Wall, Julia Allard, Courtney Pappano, Alex Stockfish, Tabitha Tremblay, Kristen Moore, and Chelsea Cadieux. The U16 team is coached by Dr. Karen Morris, Len Pappano and John Jeffries. Matt Blanchard handled the off-court training program for the squad.
